Blaine Lake Composite School is a new 2500m2, K-12 school in Blaine Lake Saskatchewan,
currently under construction. The school is designed to respond to the site with the design parti centered around the idea of a “forest school” that came from the stakeholder and student engagements. Through this process we learned of the frequent use of the treeed area around the existing school as teaching space for land based learning and the concept evolved from there.

With input from the community and Muskeg First Nation, the concept evolved to incorporate this theme throughout the building interior with references to berries, trees and natural elements throughout. Designed as a 21st Century Learning Environment the plan of the school creates two distince neighborhoods, one tailored to the early learning and middle years education and the other to a highschool environment. Both zones create space for collaboration outside the classroom and are planned around learning opportunities in every area of the design.
