Lumsden Elementary School

pmgm architecture was first approached by the School Division in 2006 to do preliminary planning for an addition and renovation to the school to alleviate area shortages. A concept plan and preliminary budget were the result of this initial meeting. A few years later, the School Division requested assistance to prepare a Stage 1 report to submit to the Ministry of Education outlining existing facility conditions and area shortfalls affecting program delivery. The final design for the school involved cutting a large section through the existing building to develop a large central commons. The design incorporated a defined entrance to the building, flex space that can serve multiple functions, a clear visual and spatial link between various programmed spaces, and bring natural daylight into the centre of the building.
